- It's donation season. Like us, I'm sure many of you are getting tons of requests to donate for charitable events and causes. Please make sure that when you choose to donate wine or experiences that include wine, that you are doing so to a 501c3 non-profit with a Special Occasion License. A banquet permit does not suffice.
- It's also bottling season. Using volunteers for commercial bottling in Washington State is generally illegal under state and federal labor laws, as for-profit businesses cannot legally have volunteers. Despite this, some small wineries may use them, but doing so risks fines, and penalties for violating minimum wage, overtime, and workers' compensation requirements.
- MAST Reminder: Please make sure that every person serving alcohol in your establishment is doing so with a valid MAST permit ON SITE. The permit must be readily available for inspection while on duty.
- It is illegal for winery owners and employees to consume alcohol while working in Washington state. According to Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board rules, no one on the job may drink alcohol or show signs of intoxication. This regulation ensures safety and compliance during operations.
